Exploring Phenom Phen

November 8, 2014

Didn’t know what to do today so last night I hopped on Couchsurfing.org and sent a couple emails asking if anyone wanted to meet up today and show me around Phenom Penh. I had two of three reply “Yes” and I spent the day on the back of a motorcycle getting shown around the city. Then I ended up in a part of town as the only Westerner eating some authentic Cambodian cuisine.. and most importantly, I made a new friend. I love Couchsurfing! Even if I don’t need a place to stay there are always so many people interested in meeting up, showing you their city and asking you about your own country. Good stuff all around.

Departing from Koh Rong

November 6, 2013

Here. Tired.. But Here. Had an amazing time in Koh Rong (Paradise). Sad to leave an amazing group of new friends, but it’s how it goes. Had an amazing week with five Dutch from Holland and one British Canadian. We had some memorable times t…ogether. My personal favorite was the dance party with the locals on the beach until the wee hours of the morning. Or maybe it was the plankton which light up the sea at night while swimming… Or maybe it was the secluded beach we all had to ourselves… Or maybe the epic sunsets.. Or maybe I can’t pick a favorite part because it was all great. Oh! and also I survived (I think) the pink eye epidemic on the island. One thing I learned was self control to not touch my face over the past week! Haha. Anyways, you all will be missed.. As for now.. HUGENSLAUGHDTEN!!!!

Koh Rong, Cambodia.

November 5, 2013

Photo of Koh Rong, Cambodia! It’s about a 2 hour boat ride from the mainland. It only has electricity from 4pm-Midnight, it’s quite awesome. We did a trek through the jungle yesterday to catch… the sunset on the other side. Some photos below. Beforehand, we had to read up on the different type of cobras to look out for while trekking. Quite a lot of venomous snakes around. Were going spear fishing later. Trying to eat tonight’s catch! We had this beach to ourselves yesterday, no one else but us. One more day here before I head to Phenom Penh. Gonna close out Cambodia with a depressing trip to the Killing Fields from the civil war & genocide where 1.7 million Cambodians lost their lives in the late 70’s to early 80’s. Then Saturday to Indonesia! I already have three Couchsurfing hosts arranged on Java. I’m quite excited.

Angkor Wat

October 27, 2013

A few days ago I woke up at 4:00am to catch a tuk tuk to the famous Angkor Wat, the oldest temple in this area. We hired a tour guide to take us through the temples. We were there all day long and only saw a fraction of what’s to see. Here is Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia at sunrise.
