One Year in New Zealand.. One Year Having Known Andy..

May 23, 2016

A year ago today I caught a flight to New Zealand! I had just spent my first two months in the States after two years abroad. It was a whirlwind trip home that basically was me running around telling everyone that I’m a homo. Bahaha πŸ˜‚ It was such an incredible and necessary trip home but was cut short when I received an email stating that I had an interview in Queenstown two weeks later. Therefore, I hopped a flight and within a week I had landed and was once again by myself in a foreign country. You’d think I would be used to it now but it’s always challenging when you first start out in a new place. My hostel room wasn’t ready yet so I decided to take a stroll around little old Queenstown. I really needed a SIM card so I went to our local phone shop called “Spark” and inquired about getting my phone set up. As I was speaking to this little, petite English girl (you’re welcome) who works there, I explained to her that I had just arrived and that my goal of the day was to make one friend. I was joking but also serious bc once you have one friend in a foreign place it suddenly doesn’t feel so foreign anymore. The girl behind the counter, Chelsey, told me that I could be her friend and she asked what I was doing later that evening. Just as I was about to tell her.. this handsome, bearded, blue eyed man quickly helped himself into our conversation. He also worked at Spark and welcomed me to Queenstown and urged me to meet up with them later. Well, it turns out that person was Andy. πŸ™‚ Now, little did I know how this would all pan out. I had no intentions to date anyone. After the way I was treated having left Australia, I told myself I would remain single for a while. Now, as you know, you can’t control who you love. After quite a long time I decided to let my guard down.. I decided to take a chance with him and it was a damn good decision. I’ve been able to experience New Zealand with him and wouldn’t have it any other way. He resorted my faith in love and he’s my best mate here. Hands down. We both never know where the future takes us as visas are always an issue.. but I do know I at least have until October by his side and that thought in itself makes happy. 🍻 I will continue to take it one day at a time but for now here’s a big “cheers” to one year in New Zealand! πŸ˜€πŸ»πŸ‚πŸ’¨
